   Dawgs Reach EMass Title Game
It is said, "Revenge is always best served Cold", and on Sunday, Beverlys Pop Warner B-Team got their revenge against a very tough Triton squad. The "Vikings" is the only team this year to put a blemish on the B-Dawgs record, beating them in double overtime three weeks ago.

"We had a lot to prove coming into this game", said Coach Belmonte, "and missing the likes of Dylan Kline and J Michael Nardella made it an even greater character builder for this team…and did they ever step-up"
!

The game started out just like the previous start versus the Vikings…every yard coming tough for both teams, and ending the first quarter with a very familiar 0-0 score. In the 2nd quarter, Coach Nardella noticed that the Triton defense was over-shifting dramatically to our "trips" offense and called a pop pass to Matt MacAniff. "Jason Fullertons pass was right on the button" Nardella said, "and then Matt carried about three Viking defenders an extra fifteen yards getting us deep into their territory". However, the Viking defense wouldnt budge and stopped us on a fourth and short on the ten-yard line…turning the ball back to Triton.

"This was a very important time in the game for us", said Coach MacNeil, "as our kids are used to scoring when they get in the red zone, but our defense dug in their heals and kept the Triton "O" to only one first down and forced them to punt". "Andrew Belmonte had the game of his life on defense", MacNeil continued, "It was great to see him come into his own".

With a good block by JP Kehoe, Patrick Bailey returned the ball back inside the Triton 40 giving the B-Dawgs another shot at scoring before halftime. "We ran basic hard-nosed football down to the 13-yard line", said Coach Nardella. The next thing that happened was a thing of beauty…the "pass" play was relayed incorrectly from the bench to Fullerton. Instead of the pass going out to our running back in the flat, it was called a pop pass to Ben Lawler. As it turned out, the "revised" call was spectacular and coach Nardella looked like a genius as Ben caught another perfect pass by Fullerton and ran it to the one-foot line (although Ben claims he was in!). Jason finished off the job on a quarterback sneak making him the 15th different player this year to cross the goal line...giving Beverly a 6-0 lead at halftime.

"I really felt that six points were all we needed as our defense would not budge", said Coach Bailey", "however, we all know anything can happen, so the nerves were pretty bunched up as we approached the second-half".

Going into the 2nd Half, Coach Nardella asked the White Offense to get a least one first down. Well, they did much better than that as they gave the ball to Jeff "bull-dog" Jones who, in two plays, carried several defenders for nearly ten yards each time. Then came the hit of the game on a block by David Jones. "David practiced the Power "I" with motion this week for the first time", said Coach Richardson, "we felt if he could get momentum behind his block, he could do some damage to the defensive end". And damage he did as David put a block on the Triton end that left him wondering what state he was in. "This block became critical to us", said coach Belmonte, "as it kept their very strong defensive ends wondering who was coming next".

That opened up the middle for us and allowed Patrick Bailey to get loose for one of his two TD’s of the day and a 12-0 lead after the 3rd quarter.

Having a 12-point lead going into the 4th quarter should make it much more comfortable for Beverly’s B-Dawgs. However, as we know, anything can happen…and it did. Triton called a very effective inside reverse fooling the entire Beverly defense and freeing up their runner to go 75 yards for what appeared to be a Triton TD. There was a flag on the play, and it was holding on Triton…keeping them out of the end zone. On the next play from scrimmage Beverly forced a Triton fumble and recovered on about the 35-yard line.

Two plays later, Beverly broke Triton’s back with another shot up the middle for a score making it 18-0.

"So many players ‘stepped up’ for us today", said Coach Nardella. "Sam Newman had a outstanding game; Jared Kusiak filled in for J Michael as the two-back with only one practice day and did outstanding; JD Martz played his D-End the best he’s done all year; Andrew Frates continued to be the key leader on the White Offense; Jason ‘found the zone’; Zac Anderson has been really working hard on the Blue Defense; Nathan Verry is still laying hits on people that make my heart stop…and the list goes on", says Nardella.

Beverly’s B-Dawgs have a chance to repeat as Eastern Mass Champions by beating Marlboro on Wednesday night, November 7th in Medford.

Sam Newman (78), Jacob Martz (85), Jared Kusiak (20), and Pat Bailey
are among the Dawg defenders in on this play during Beverly's sweet
18-0 victory in their return match with the Triton Vikings.
