SWIM TO WIN
The Beverly C team moved one step closer to the Eastern Mass title with a win over a very game Chelsea team. In the wind, rain and even a little sleet Beverly managed to put 20 points on the board. Chelsea won the toss but elected to defer to the second half, and on the third play from scrimmage TD Kehoe broke one 50 yards and the first points of the game. TD followed the blocks of Nathan Verry, Matt McAniff and J Michael Nardella and once he saw the opening he was gone. "On the first drive of the game I was very pleased that the guys where able to move the ball. I was not sure how they where going to react to the weather" said a dripping coach Nardella.
As it has been all
year the defense was outstanding! The Blue D started the game with the trio
of McGinnity, Russo and Sullivan leading the way! "The Blue was
great" said a happy and wet coach Richardson. "They didn't
even give up a first down" he went on to say. The story was
much the same when the Black took the field. Sacks by Dylan Kline,
Jason Fullerton and Triple J kept the Chelsea team off
balance for the first half. The second score of the half came
when J Michael fielded a punt that coach Nardella was screaming
"get away from it" J took in on the bounce and returned it
20 yards to the Chelsea 25. After a 6 yard gain by Pat Bailey
J Michael went around right end behind a
Bailey block that put the Chelsea player out of the game. "J
Michael scared me to death on that I would of been happy with the ball
on the 45" said coach Nardella "But I should stay out of it
some times and late the kids on the field do what they have been
taught." The extra point failed and Beverly led at half 13-0.
In the second half the
field and the weather where worse but that was not going to stop
the C DAWGS Dylan Kline boomed the opening kick off pinning
Chelsea deep after another nice tackle by Sean Deady. The Dawgs D
held again giving the ball to Andrew Frates and the White O. The white
line opened a few holes but by then the field was so wet the backs
could not get to them. Both teams tried to muster some offense but
without much luck. Chelsea's best two runs of the day where on busted
plays and some neat running by #22 who was doing his best to keep his
team in the game. Chelsea scored with 6.30 on the clock and
things on the Beverly side got a little quiet, Beverly led 13-7 !
But when things got
tough some one stood up and took control. Jason Fullerton who had
played a strong game to that point picked it up a notch. He
guided the team down the field and on two separate plays paid
no attention to the coaches call and called his on play. Once
springing J Michael around end for 15 yards and a first down and then
calling his own number going left for twenty yards and another first
down. Bailey and Nardella banged it up the middle a few times with J
going over from six yards out.
"The line really came together
on that last drive and blew open some holes, the five dirtiest
guys out there Belmonte, Blazo, Kline, MacNeill and Provencher got the
job done when it counted" said coach Richardson. "Jason
called a better game then I did" said coach Nardella. "He is
a smart kid and understands what we want him to do" said the
coach. Jason just said" I was to cold to do what the coach wanted
so I did what I thought would work"
The Dawgs travel to
Burlington later this week to take on an as let unknown opponent
but it will not matter these guys just find a way to win
The coaches would like to thank the team
and their parents for the gifts "it is our pleasure to coach this
group" ...Beverly only
fumble twice in the worse weather to date....Did any one notice the
shade of red on Pat Bailey and J Michael's arms they where
afraid of fumbling so they went in short sleeves....Dylan Kline did a
great job getting the ball to the QB in this weather....Thanks to the
fans that stuck it out it is appreciated....Dylan's Kickoffs where
amazing it this weather...Sean Deady made two nice tackles on
kickoffs...Tommy Whalen, John Aiken, Mike Zullo, Russo, Maginnity and
Belmonte all saw time at nose tackle....Andrew Frates was limping a
little but will be ready to play in Burlington...Rumors are that the
Kuz is almost ready to play...Practice Tuesday at 6:00
