HUTCH BROTHERS AND WHITE O SPARK WIN
The play of the
brothers Hutchinson (Steve and Sean) sparked the White O and the team
and helped lead the Beverly C team to a come from behind victory! Sean
played some safety with the black D and blocked very well with the
white O, but Steve had the run of his career and of the game when he
broke through the line on a counter and picked up a huge first down. "That
played really sparked the team" said coach Nardella. "The
Hutch brothers give you everything they have on every play! They work
their tales off all week and don't say a word they just want to be
part of the team and I for one am very glad they are."
The game started the
same as the first seven Beverly won the toss and took the ball. Behind
some nice blocking by Matt Provencher and Jake McNeil the Orange O
moved the ball well with Triple J and J Michael Nardella running hard.
But on a dive play
Nardella got drilled and fumbled and Lynn
took over on their own 10. The Blue D stuffed the first two plays and
on third and long Lynn tried a screen pass that was ruled a fumble and
Andrew Frates covered for a safety and a 2-0 Beverly lead. TD Kehoe
had a nice return on the kickoff setting up Beverly on the Lynn 40.
But on the next play Triple J fumble the ball back to Lynn stopping
the Beverly threat. "It was cold today and the ball was hard to
hold onto" said coach Richardson "and Jeff was fighting for
extra yards you can't get mad when a kid is running that hard."
Once again the D held led by Sean Mitchell, Nathan (big dog) Verry,
and Jason Fullerton. "The D was hitting hard and playing their
position well" said coach "these kids are a pleasure to
coach they do what you ask of them and they take pride in doing
it!"
Late in the half the
orange O coughed up the ball on the Lynn 11 stopping another Beverly
drive. This time however Lynn moved the ball on a couple of nice pass
plays. "They caught us flat footed, the players where a little
down because of the fumbles and I think they where feeling sorry for
themselves. The D has not let up a point all season and wanted to keep
that streak" said coach McNeil. But on an end sweep Pat Bailey
stepped up and had the Lynn back in the backfield, but could not wrap
him up. The back broke free and went 20 yards, and for the first time in
6 games Beverly trailed. "Pat made a great play but the rest of
the D stood there watching and the streak was over" said Nardella
"the kids just learned a tough lesson you have to play until the
whistle"
"It was a tough
way to end the half these guys where pretty down with three fumbles
and Lynn scoring I knew the job at half time would be to get the kids
back up mentally and into the game" said the coach " all we
talked about was believing in themselves and in each other. We really
pushed the positives of the first half." Coach Richardson
added" there was a lot of positives we moved the ball well and
the line was opening holes. We where still in this game and had just
played our worst half of football of the season"
The half time break was
just what Beverly needed. Dylan Kline kicking in place of the injured
Jared Kusiak boomed the kickoff
pinning Lynn deep in their own end. With
TD Kehoe and his personnel blocker Nardella set to return the punt
Beverly could start to feel the game start to shift. This time on the
punt Nardella took in on a bounce made one nice move and was in the
end zone for the first time this year. Only one Lynn player had a shot
at Nardella but Fullerton put an end to that with a block that put the
Lynn defender out of the game. "These guys love to block and if
they have a chance to hit you they will" said the coach.
The next time Lynn came
on the field the D was starting to feel pretty good about themselves
again and on third and long Nardella picked off a Lynn pass attempt
setting up a first and 10 at the Lynn 40. On comes the White O and on
a third and long Steve Hutchinson broke through the hole for the BIG
first down. The white line blocked their hearts out and Hutch did it
on sheer will he was not going to be stopped. "Hutch's run
sparked the rest of the team it was great to see the kids running on
to the field to greet Hutch. Two plays later Pat Champ Bailey took it
20 yards around end and six more. The scoring was capped off when the
white O opened a hole that truck could of fit through and Triple J
went 30 yards for the final score. "You have to feel good for
Triple J he had a couple of fumbles but to come back and score it
helps the hurt go away" said Nardella.
"These boys learned
what a team was today. When things got tight they came together and
played as a team" said a much relieved coach. "Andrew Frates
not only had a great game on D he took it on himself to talk to his
team mates and pick them up not letting them get down. He showed great
leadership out there he is a class act." said the coach.
