Hard-Hitting C Team Tops West Lynn,21-0
The Pop Warner C team once again played some tough "D" and left the Manning Bowl in Lynn with the win and recorded their fourth shut out in a row. "This team loves to play "D"  They just love to hit people!" said coach Nardella.
Beverly won the toss and took the ball and put it in the hands of Andrew Frates and the White O. After a few nice runs by "Rew Richardson and Triple J (Jeff Jones) the drive stalled and on came the Beverly D. Lynn went 4 plays and out and Beverly took over on downs. Once again the White O came on the field but could not put together a drive.  After the D stopped Lynn in their tracks, Beverly came out with the Orange O and moved the ball down on the legs of Jared Kusiak and J Nardella. The blocking of Dylan Kline, Jake MacNeil, Matt Provencher, Rich Blazo,  Andrew Belmonte,  Ben Lawler and Matt McNiff was the main reason Beverly was able to move the ball so well. On a first and goal Coach Nardella made the bone head call of the year when he call a reverse pass.
Poor Jason Fullerton did not have a chance as he was running for his life and threw up a duck that was picked off and returned to the 40. When asked about the called all the coach would say" was I blew the call. I bet the sports talk shows have a ball with that tomorrow."
The defense again shut down West Lynn and Beverly took the ball over at mid-field with 3:30 left and started their march for the end zone on 2nd and long Fullerton hit the out stretched Nardella for a diving catch and a first and goal from the 7. The very next play Fullerton hit Ben Lawler in the end zone for 6. Triple J followed the block of Provencher for the extra point and a 7-0 lead. The D came up big once again and with 5 seconds to play in the half Beverly had the ball on the 40. JP Kehoe came to the side lines and asked the coach for the ball. (He did not want the coach to blow another call) The call was a 49 reverse and behind a block by Fullerton and Matt McNiff, Kehoe high stepped his way 40 yards and the touchdown on the last play of the half. On the extra point Fullerton tried to hit Sean Hutchinson in the end zone. "Hutch made a great effort on the ball but could not muscle it away for the much larger defender." said Nardella. Score Beverly 13 - Lynn 0
The second half started with a Kusiak kickoff that Sean Deady covered like a blanket giving Lynn the ball on their own 7. The Blue defense came out throwing their weight around stopping Lynn cold. Billy Sullivan and Kline made a bone crushing tackle once again causing Lynn to go 4 and out. Beverly then moved the ball well with Nardella and Kusiak doing the bulk of the work. Kuz made a great run picking up 15 yards where there were none but on his second and third effort the Lynn defender pulled the ball loose on the 1 yard line. "You always hate to fumble the ball away but when you run as hard as Jared did as a coach you can't ask for more" said Coach Nardella.
In the 4th quarter the "D" controlled the flow of the game. With Fullerton and Sam Newman forcing the Lynn Quarterback to look for cover. Nathan (call me Naa) Verry had his best game of the year with 3 big sacks. "The Dog Pound D came up big today" said coach Richardson. "Justin Russo and Kerk Soursouraian made some nice plays" he went on to say.
Beverly's last score came with the white O moving the ball well when Pat ( champ) Bailey went off tackle going 30 yards behind a nice block by Matt Mezakowski. Beverly then lined up for the extra point with Kuz kicking the first extra point for the season. "I think the kids where more excited about kicking that point then anything else. That takes team work a nice snap, a good hold, blocking up front and the kick. It's not easy getting all three things to happen at once."
"This is a good team" said the coach "The thing I like most is that there is always some one different coming up to make the big play. Today the Hutchinson brothers played with both the white and the orange offenses and block great. Sean Deady flew down field to cover a kickoff pinning Lynn deep. These are the little things that help make a team good"

Next week Beverly will be home for the first time in 4 weeks so come on down and bark for the dogs!!
